Cell phone use prohibited while operating motor vehicles on Hickam AFB.
Public Affairs Internal Information
15th Public Affairs
COMPACAF has instituted a policy that will prohibit use of cell phones while driving on Pacific Air Forces installations.
Effective immediately, vehicle operators and operators of Government Owned Vehicles, both on and off-installations, will be prohibited of using cell phone unless the vehicle is safely parked or they are using a hands-free device. Violation of this warning will result in a written warning until 28 Feb 06. Beginning on 1 Mar 06, a violation of this nature will result in the loss of on-base driving privileges for 30 days.
One of the most important elements of the PACAF mission is the welfare and safety of our Airmen and their families. Use of cell phones impairs driving ability and masks or prevents recognition of emergency signals, alarms, announcements, the approach of vehicles and human speech. According to the NHTSA, distracted driving contributes to 25% of all traffic accidents. These accidents have a serious negative impact on our families, unit morale and combat readiness.
This policy applies to all uniformed military personnel, DOD civilians, contractors, family members and any other non-DOD drivers operating a motor vehicle on all PACAF installations.
Please follow all rules when you are on the Base!
