Facilitators between Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam and the Community

Aloha Friends of Hickam:

2012 FOH ANNUAL DINNER/MEETING

Bring in the New Year by attending the FOH Annual Dinner Meeting on Tuesday, January 17,
2012. It will be at the Ala Moana Hotel Rumours. Come dressed as your favorite M*A*S*H Doctor, Nurse, Administrator or Soldier from the Mobile Army (yikes!) Medical Unit of the Korean War. Don’t miss an evening of great food, games, dancing, karaoke and good fun!

Our Hickam Ohana is invited. If you are an Honorary Commander, please encourage your Commander to attend. Guest are welcome. Your 2012 Hickam gate passes will be distributed at this event.

CHRISTMAS @ HALE AINA

Mahalo to the members who are volunteering to serve Christmas Lunch at Hale Aina. I had an overwhelming response from members. We will be in force spreading the FOH Holiday Cheer on Christmas Day!

MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL

Mahalo for renewing your membership! And to the sponsors of prospective members, keep Thursday, January 5, 2012 open for the interview before the Board. You will be notified of your appointment time.

I would like to Thank Steve Chow for the countless hours of dedication as FOH Membership Committee. He is responsible for getting the notice and renewal forms out to you and back to Hickam for processing. You wouldn’t receive your pass in a timely manner if not for STEVE. (he also sends all the emails!) Please personally thank him.

Lastly –
During this Holiday Season, slow down to share the company and love of family and friends. Stay healthy. Count your blessings.

May happiness and the spirit of the season be with you and yours!

Happy Holidays,
Gwen Omori
President, FOH

Friends of Hickam Mission Statement:
The members of the Friends of Hickam will serve as facilitators between Hickam Air Force Base and the community. We seek to support, promote and foster favorable relations with those associated with the USAF and Hickam Air Force Base

WE THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR HELP, SUPPORT AND PARTICIPATION IN THE ACTIVITIES OF FRIENDS OF HICKAM INC.

Base Speed Limit Reminder

Most of us are not aware of the speed limit before entering and exiting the main gate. A member received a citation entering the main clocked by radar going 32 MPH in a 15 MPH speed zone. Now we know that the jurisdiction and boundary for Hickam starts at curve as you come off of H1 and proceed under the pedestrian overpass. There is a posted speed limit of 15 MPH for that approach to the main gate. Likewise, while exiting the main gate the posted speed limit is 30 MPH until you are past the pedestrian overpass. Cell phone use while driving a vehicle is also
prohibited while operating a moving vehicle on the base. Please be observant of traffic regulations at Hickam.

Very Important Reminders and UPDATES

We ask that the contact information be used for Friends of Hickam Inc. business only.

Our liaison with Hickam Air Force Base is David Tomiyama of the Public Affairs Office. If possible, please address your questions or inquiries to a board member before contacting Philip.

Use your privilege as a member to visit the base… enjoy the facilities and join our Air Force friends.

This privilege has been extended to us by the Wing Commander, Colonel Barrett and we are his guests on Hickam AFB. Be courteous at all times. Please follow all rules, regulations and applicable laws including posted speed limits.

Of special importance is THE RECENT RULE RESTRICTING THE USE OF CELL PHONES WHILE OPERATING A MOTOR VEHICLE ON BASE.
