Facilitators between Hickam Air Force Base and the Community

February 22, 2010

Friends of Hickam Member:

On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to welcome you to an exciting year as a Friend of Hickam.

Please take a minute to read our mission statement found at the bottom of this letter. We hope you will make a pledge to be an active participant in all of our activities. That you will help to foster stronger relationship between the active Hickam Air Force Base personnel, members of the Friends of Hickam and the community of our State.

We host and are invited to many activities to strengthen our commitment and bond. For these events to be successful, you will be asked to participate in person, financially or in a combination. We hope that you will volunteer your resources to facilitate the efforts of FOH.

There are two significant activities which invite your involvement. We ask that you to be a participant and/or provide prizes or supplies. The first would be the Annual Keiki Fishing Tournament scheduled for early June at the Ho’omaluhia Gardens in Kaneohe. This fishing event signals the start of summer for the children at Hickam AFB. They are treated to fishing gear, prizes and lunch provided and cooked by our members.

The second event is the FOH 17th Annual Golf Tournament at Mamala Bay Golf Course on July 22, 2010. The golf tournament is our only fundraiser of the year. This enables us to support activities, to finance the yearly base project and sponsor non budgeted expenses for Hickam personnel.

Other activities the Board planned for this year are:
- Historical Hickam Base tour scheduled for late April
- Pearl Harbor Boat tour scheduled for late June
- And The Burger Burn in September
We hope that your schedules will permit you to participate in a majority of   these events.

To be effective, we will be corresponding via email and via the Friends of Hickam website.

You made the commitment. Now be a committed loyal friend to Friends of Hickam.

Aloha,
Gwen Omori
President

Friends of Hickam Mission Statement:
The members of the Friends of Hickam will serve as facilitators between Hickam Air Force Base and the community. We seek to support, promote and foster favorable relations with those associated with the USAF and Hickam Air Force Base

WE THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR HELP, SUPPORT AND PARTICIPATION IN THE ACTIVITIES OF FRIENDS OF HICKAM INC.

Base Speed Limit Reminder

Most of us are not aware of the speed limit before entering and exiting the main gate. A member received a citation entering the main clocked by radar going 32 MPH in a 15 MPH speed zone. Now we know that the jurisdiction and boundary for Hickam starts at curve as you come off of H1 and proceed under the pedestrian overpass. There is a posted speed limit of 15 MPH for that approach to the main gate. Likewise, while exiting the main gate the posted speed limit is 30 MPH until you are past the pedestrian overpass. Cell phone use while driving a vehicle is also
prohibited while operating a moving vehicle on the base. Please be observant of traffic regulations at Hickam.
